Activities in San Francisco

Want to explore San Francisco's rolling hills with a little more speed? Then gear up for some fun with these options for bike rentals in San Francisco! Biking is a great way to explore the Bay Area and navigate our crooked and hilly streets and there's no shortage of bike rental shops or tour companies to help guide the way.

Bay City Bike Rentals & Tours offers rentals starting at $32. Select from their fleet of hybrid bikes, electric bikes, and performance bikes and if you book online you'll get 20% off your rate. Bay City Bike Rentals & Tours has an office at 1669 Haight St. which is less than a 20-minute walk from The Metro Hotel.

If you're not ready to bike the hilly streets of San Francisco by yourself, the company also offers guided tours: The Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito tour, streets of San Francisco tour, and the California sunset tour. Tours range from two to four hours, covering 8 15 miles, and are open to all skill levels. The streets of San Francisco tour does require that bikers know how to ride in urban settings.

Blazing Saddles is another bike outfitter with comfort, electric, mountain, road, and tandem bike rentals. You can choose from a list of the self-guided tours or they offer a guided three-hour Golden Gate Bridge tour as well as combination tours that include Alcatraz Island.

Your rental includes a lock, map, and helmet too. Booking online can save you 20% off your rental if you're looking for an affordable biking adventure. They also share ride recommendations with the plan your ride tool.

City Ride shares its location with its sister company, Streets of San Francisco Bike Tours, if you're still debating between biking on your own or taking a guided tour through the city. SOSF Bike Tours offers four distinct tours, ranging from a nine-mile ride in the heart of the city or the majestic electric at 20 miles.

Dylan's Tours offers three electric bike tours: The original city loop tour, intro to San Francisco and all-day rental, and the bike and picnic combination tour. Some of the tours let you keep your bike for the rest of the day so you can explore other neighborhoods of San Francisco or revisit a particular point of interest from your tour.

Ferry Building Bike Rentals has bikes for rent at either their Fisherman's Wharf location or within 20 minutes of The Metro Hotel at their Haight Street location. They offer hybrid, mountain, performance hybrid, and comfort tandem bicycles as well as discounted online pricing.

Pedal Inn offers unique tours to fully immerse yourself in San Francisco's culture and food scene. Their tours include: Roots to riches, outside lands, golden ticket, and infinite city. If you want a little more oomph to your ride but still want to be compact, try a rental through GoCar Tours! GoCars are "GPS-guided storytelling cars," that are ready to share information on more than 200 points of interest and help you navigate Lombard Street! The San Francisco downtown loop is the first option at $58 or you can do the scenic 49-mile drive all-day rental for $280. Most tours are priced for two people.

GoCar Tours allow you to travel at your own pace so you can stop for photo ops or investigate a point of interest more closely. Keep in mind these are convertibles, so you can enjoy the sights of San Francisco more clearly, so dress warmly and in layers for this tour.
